The aim of this 1 day event is to bring together as many of the people involved or interested in food related projects and organisations across Sheffield, create opportunities to meet each other and learn about the current developments around food for Sheffield. These developments include:

Food Plan

A food plan for Sheffield is currently being written. It will be an action plan for the next 3 years. Based on examples around the UK where food plans have been successfully delivered, one of the potential recommendations of the food plan will be the creation of a Sheffield food partnership. There is a need to understand and contribute to the development of the food plan and a food partnership for the city.

Food Festival

A food festival for Sheffield is currently being organised. It will take place at the end of May / beginning of June. There is a need to engage in organising community and social enterprise based activities for the festival programme. There is funding available through the Community Assemblies for these activities. Once the food plan is finalised it will be launched at the festival.

Food Initiatives

There has been a significant increase in food related initiatives being set up in communities across the city, building on the existing number of well established food related projects which nationally are considered as examples of best practice. It is important the wide range of training and capacity building activities being delivered are continued, that resources for all this great work are secured and that action is taken on the perceived lack of 'joined up thinking' around ways in which these projects can work together for the benefit of each other and the city.

Making Local Food Work

The Making Local Food Work programme is currently supporting a number of food related community enterprises across Sheffield. The programme will continue until 2012. There is an opportunity to understand and make the most of what is available and contribute to it's future development and delivery.
